1.
Purpose - The purpose of the DYA Travel Basketball Program is
to further the development of basketball players in the 4th, 5th
and 6th Grades who demonstrate basketball skills and abilities above
the typical Recreational League player by providing them with additional
practice opportunities and games in a more competitive setting.
2.
Eligibility - All Travel Basketball players must reside within
the limits of the

Number of Players per Team
- EIt is
recommended that eaach team will consist of
a minimum of ten (10) players.
4.
Number of Teams to be Selected - No
teams will be selected for a 4th
Grade Girls Travel Team. Only one (1)
team will be selected for a 4th Grade Boys Travel Team. For Girls Depeand Boys ndent
upon the talent level trying out for both genders iin
both
the 5th and 6th Grades, dependent upon the talent
level trying out, there may be one one (1)
or two (2) teams may be selected in each division. If the talent level is significant enough to
warrant two (2) teams in any respective division
in 5th
or 6th gGrrade boys or girls,,
then an “A” Team and a “B” Team will be selected for thate
respective division.
In
addition to the above referenced teams, 4th Grade Recreation League
All-Star Teams for both Girls and Boys will be selected in early January for participation
in post-season tournament play. The
number of All-Star Teams to be selected for each gender will be determined at
the tryouts by the Director of Travel Basketball with the DYA Athletic
Director’s assistance. They will make
this determination based upon a number of varying factors, s… some
of those factors being the quantity of the players trying out, the quality of the
skill level of the players trying out, their ability to compete at the All-Star
level, and the number of coaching
candidates available.
5.
Player Selections for Travel Teams - - Open Ttryouts
for both genders in each grade will be conducted in the fall, just prior to the
beginning of each new basketball season.
Tryouts will be open to any and all players registered to play in the
DYA Recreation Leagues.
If
two teams are being selected for a specific gender and grade, the top ten (10) evaluated
players should be placed on the “A” Team and the next ten (10) highest rated
players will be placed on the “B” Team.
If
only one (1) team is to be chosen for a specific gender and grade, the top ten
(10) players should be identified at the tryouts by the evaluation / selection
committee and placed on that team.
Two
(2) alternate players for each gender in each grade will be ranked and
identified by the evaluation / selection committee. In the event that one of the players selected
to be on a team chooses either not to participante
or becomes injured sometime during the season and if the Head Coach wishes to
replace themhim/her, then
the next highest ranked player will be offered a position on that team. However, the Recreation League player being invited
to fill an open position on a Travel Team must first fulfill their obligation
to practice and play with their Recreation League Team whenever a conflict
arises.
6.
Player Selections for All-Star Tournament Teams - Open tTryouts
for both genders in the 4th Grade will be conducted in early
January. Tryouts will be open to any and
all players currently participating in the 4th Grade Recreation
Leagues.
Regardless
of how many teams will be selected, the evaluators will be asked to rank the
players trying out into groups of ten (10).
The first group will consist of the of the top
ten (10) evaluated players, the second group
will consist of the next ten (10) highest evaluated most
talented players trying out and a third group will
consist of the next ten (10) highest evaluatedmost talented
players .
Based
upon how many teams will be selected to play in the post-season tournaments,
either the top ten (10), top twenty (20) or top thirty (30) ranked players will
then be asked to attend an open gym where they will be observed and
re-evaluated by the Head Coaches for the team(s). Towards the end of the open gym, the Head
Coaches with assistance ofrom the
Director of Travel Basketball will then draft ten (10) players for each of
their teams.
7.
Tryouts Evaluation / Selection Committee - The- The
Committee will be comprised of four (4) to six (6) people, each of whom who will
does not have a child in the grade level and gender that they will be evaluating. The Committee should hopefully ideally include
former coaches with previous travel league experience and will be mixed with
others who have a good knowledge of the game of basketball and possess the
ability to evaluate youth basketball talent.
8.
Coaching Selections - Any individual familiar with the DYA Travel Basketball
Program may apply for the position of Head Coach. All individuals interested in being a Head Coach
must complete a DYA Coaching Application Form and submit it to the Director of
Travel Basketball within three (3) days of the last tryout date. Potential Head Coaches will be interviewed and
selected by the Director of Travel Basketball.
If deemed necessary and at the discretion of the Director of Travel
Basketball, a Head Coaches Interview Committee made up of DYA Board Members along
with the DYA Athletic Director will be assembled to assist in finalizing
the selections of the Head Coaches. Head
Coaches will be selected based upon their basketball knowledge, previous
coaching and/or playing experiences and their ability to devote enough time and
energy to the Program.
9.
Uniforms - All Travel Team players will be given provided
a uniform consisting of game shorts, game jersey and a warm-up shirt
which will be theirs to use throughout the basketball season. Uniforms must be properly cared for
throughout the season and returned to the Head Coach in a serviceable condition
at the end of the basketball season.
The 4th
Grade All-Star
Teams will wear their DYA Recreation League jerseys that
they currently own for the All-Star Tournament games.
10.
Practices - .All Travel
Teams will be offered the opportunity to practice weeknights up to twice a week
from late October to the end of their post-season tournaments in March. They will work out for approximately 1½ hours
in each session. Parents should be aware
that some practices may start as late as
The 4th Grade Boys and Girls All-Star Tournament Teams will start practicing
on Friday evenings once the teams have been selected in January. They will workout for 1½ to 2 hours each
Friday evening until the Friday preceding their final tournament games in
March.
11.
Number of Regular Season Games
– All– All Travel
Teams will play a schedule that will consist of between fourteen (14) to
sixteen (16) regular season league games.
The Girls will play in the C.O.G.B.A. Leagues and the Boys will play in
the C.O.B.B.A. Leagues. League games are
to take a priority over any tournament games, except the DYA Holiday
Tournament games, should a conflict arise.
12.
Playing Time - Playing time for any and all players is not
guaranteed to be evenly distributed.
Playing time will be earned by the individual players and determined by
the Head Coach given the following parameters:
a.
Provided that an
individual player does not have any disciplinary issue, he/she will be offered
the opportunity to play a minimum of 20% of the standard regulation game time. For example, if a team plays four (4) six-
minute quarters in their games, then each player should be offered the chance
to play 4.8 minutes of that game. Games
extended by overtime periods would have no bearing upon playing time.
b.
Any player who
misses a practice during the week preceding the weekend games will forfeit the
minimum playing time requirements for that week.
c.
Any player who
violates a written team rules during the week preceding the
weekend games will forfeit the minimum playing time requirements for that week.
13.
Tournaments – The– The 5th and 6th
Grade Girls and Boys Travel Teams will be automatically enteredinvited
to participate
in the Dublin Holiday Tournament. Both parents of all players on ALL
Travel Teams (including the 4th Grade
Boys Team) will be required to work
pre-defined shifts during the DYA Holiday
Tournament.
The 5th
and 6th Grade Girls and Boys Travel
Teams They will also be allowed to
participate in two (2) “in regular-season” or post-season
tournaments and will have their entry fees for these two (2) tournaments paid
by the DYA organization.
The
4th Grade Boys Travel Team will be allowed to enter and participate
in two (2) “in regular season” or post-season
tournaments. The entry fees for these
two (2) tournaments will be paid by the DYA organization.
Any
additional tournaments (be they pre-season, during the season or post season)
that any team wishes to enter must first be approved by the Director of Travel
Basketball. The entry fees for these
additional tournaments will not be paid by the DYA organization.
The
4th Grade Girls and Boys All-Star Tournament Teams will participate
in up to two (2) post-season tournaments which will be selected by the Director
of Travel Basketball. The entry
fees for these two (2) tournaments will be paid by the DYA organization.
The
Travel
Basketball Sseason will end at the conclusion of the
regular season and/orof the post
season tournaments. U and uniforms
must be cleaned and returned to The DYA organization at that point.
14.
Replacement Players - If- If a player
chosen for a tournament team is unable to
play or is injured during the season, the next highest ranked player from the
tryouts may be added to the team’s roster with approval of the Director of
Travel Basketball. However, a Recreation
League player’s first responsibility will remain with his/her Recreation League
team whenever Travel Team games or practices conflict with their Recreation League
games or practices.
Residency
- All Travel Basketball players must reside within
the limits of the Dublin City School District to be eligible for Travel League and
Tournament participation. To be
eligible for OSYB Tournament participation, all players must attend a school
within the school district that the youth organization represents.
