What does SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS mean?

For baseball, softball:

Registration began in mid-December with an announced close date of January 31st for eleven different leagues. At that time the applications for each league were tallied and a determination was made as to the number of teams in each league. For example, if there were 263 applications in a particular league and each team has 14 players in that league, there would likely be 20 teams established, for at total of 280 players. That means the next 17 players would be accepted in this league before it is declared "full" and no more applications could be accepted.

The number is set so that there can be late enrollees, but if there are no late enrollees, then the number must be set so each team will not be short of players. There is no interest in creating short rosters which result in not enough players on game day for the players who do sign up on time.

Once the number of teams is identified the huge tasks of scheduling games and practices on a limited number of fields, organizing coaches clinics and meetings, and scheduling umpires began.  While it would be nice if all these things could be instantaneously done, the reality is there must be a registration deadline so the process can begin.

Historically, the number of teams set has usually been sufficient to accommodate late enrollees, but not always.  It is an educated guess just how many late enrollees there might be.  The status will be posted on-line.  We will do our best to try to get your child into the program, but there are now no guarantees.

Once the leagues are filled, players are placed on a wait-list in the order they are received.  Any player dropping from a league already filled is replaced from the wait-list in the order the players signed up.

For basketball:

Registration began in mid-July with an announced close date of September 14th for fourteen different leagues.  At that time the applications for each league were tallied and a determination was made as to the number of teams in each league. For example, if there were 130 applications in a particular league and each team has 9 players in that league, there would likely be 16 teams established, for at total of 144 players. That means the next 14 players would be accepted in this league before it is declared "full" and no more applications could be accepted.

The number is set so that there can be late enrollees, but if there are no late enrollees, then the number must be set so each team will not be short of players.  There is no interest in creating short rosters which result in not enough players on game day for the players who do sign up on time.  Furthermore, the number of teams needs to be an even number, as all games are played on either Saturday or Sunday, and options with odd numbers have proved unworkable, i.e. teams do not want a 'bye' on a particular weekend, nor want to play twice in one day.

Once the number of teams is identified the huge tasks of scheduling games and practices on a limited number of gyms, organizing coaches' clinics and meetings, and scheduling referees began.  While it would be nice if all these things could be instantaneously done, the reality is there must be a registration deadline so the process can begin.

We will do our best to try to get your child into the program, but there are now no guarantees.

For volleyball:

Registration began in late-April with an announced close date of June 1st for four different leagues.  At that time the applications for each league were tallied and a determination was made as to the number of teams in each league. For example, if there were 59 applications in a particular league and each team has 9 players in that league, there would likely be 8 teams established, for at total of 72 players. That means the next 13 players would be accepted in this league before it is declared "full" and no more applications could be accepted.
