Recreation Golf
Program Summary
The golf program is for boys and girls in grades 3 through 11 in the school year
in which registration takes place. Thus, grades are 4 through 12 for the
upcoming school year.
Greens fees are included in the price of the program registration. All players
must purchase and wear the official league shirt and hat. If you have a hat and
shirt from the previous year that still fits, you do not need to repurchase it.
The league is played on Sunday evenings. The first three weeks players can form
their own foursome at the course to which they are assigned that week. The last
three weeks, tee times and players will be assigned foursomes.
Lessons are group lessons of one hour each on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Golf
League registrations begin March 1st.
The golf league sign-ups for leagues and lessons begin March 1st and will
continue through May 15th. Application forms are
on-line.
Fees
Fees for league, lessons, shirts and hats can be found by registering
on-line.
Fees and lessons are a function of the charges from the courses.
Background
The golf program is a rapidly growing program that requires the support and
commitment of participants, their parents, and program volunteers. The program
is making every effort to accommodate all applicants and sacrifices have been
made in past years so DYA could retain golfing privileges at the local courses.
It has been the commitment of the previous participants and the respect for the
facilities which has allowed DYA to retain contracted course time. As such the
program has grown and developed by allowing returning participants first option
to return. Each of the past several years approximately 60% of the participants
returned. With the popularity of golf on the rise, significant effort has been
required just to maintain the tee times the program has enjoyed at the rates the
courses have provided.
Registration Procedure
The program has since inception and will again this year recognize prior
commitment by allowing the previous year's participants first opportunity to
sign-up. Returning player commitments must be made by May 15th. After May 15th
any registration received from a returning participant is included with the
registrations of new applicants. As of May 16th all new registrations,
including any returning player registrations received after May 15th, are part
of an open pool to fill any remaining vacancies in the league. In the event
there are more registrations on May 16th than openings in the league, there will
be a lottery to determine which of the new applications, including those
returning players submitting applications after May 16th, will be accepted fill
the remaining spots. The children of the program administrators, who volunteer
significant time to assure this program is managed to course specifications,
will be exempted from the lottery process and granted admission. Registration
is
online.
A letter via e-mail will be sent on approximately June 1st to all the current
year participants welcoming them to the program and advising players and their
parents of the mandatory parent meeting to discuss league and course rules.
Parents will have the opportunity to have any additional questions about this
year's program answered at that time.
Players will be assigned to leagues according to age and experience. The size
of the program prohibits special requests to be in the same league other than
extreme circumstances. Also, depending on the number of female participants
each year, there may or may not be a separate female league. It is best to
assume that all leagues will be coed.
The lesson program is limited availability and is first come first serve.
Lessons will be broken into 10 player groups. Times and location will be
assigned by age and experience. Again, special requests to be in the same
lesson program can not be accommodated.
