Basketball Sign-Ups Now Underway

Sign-ups for the 2005-2006 basketball season are now underway.  Forms may be obtained at the office and on the website.  See page 4 for details.

Pre-registration is encouraged, especially if you cannot be there for scheduled registration dates.  In addition to regular sign-up dates and downloading your own form from the web site, there will be a few nights prior to the end of registration when the office will be open for sign-ups.  Check the web site for hours when sign-ups will occur in the evenings at the DYA office.

Volunteers are needed to serve as league commissioners in boys 3rd grade and girls 3rd grade leagues.  Commissioners in basketball are responsible for selection of coaches, conducting the coaches’ meeting in October/November, and administering any issues that come up during the course of the season, such as notification of game or practice time changes.  Please call the office at 889-2951 if you can serve in this capacity.

 DYA Office Hours

Dublin Youth Athletics is run by parent volunteers, all of whom have full time jobs and families.  The DYA office is an unstaffed office, meaning there are volunteers there from time to time, but not full time.

In general there is a volunteer in the office Monday mornings from 8:30 am to 10:00 am during September, January and February, the peak sign-up and organizational periods.  Volunteers are also there those days in other months.  Please check the web site.

The office lobby is unlocked and locked by a volunteer on her way to and from work every Monday through Friday.  This means the office lobby is generally open from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm to pick up and drop off applications.

During sign-up periods special evening hours may also be available.  Again, please check the web site.

Please Help Take Care of Facilities

The volleyball and basketball programs enjoy significant use of school gymnasiums for games and practices throughout the season.  Your cooperation in helping maintain facilities is of great value in preserving the facility availability from the schools in the future.

There are several recurring problems that you can help to alleviate.  Please remember that no food or beverages are permitted in the gyms.  Problems with spilled soda pop and coffee make the floors unsafe for players.

There is to be no bouncing or other use of balls in the commons areas of any school.

Please keep siblings in the gym with their parents during games.  There have been reported incidents of damage caused by unattended children.

Players, please remember to carry your court shoes into the gym.  Wearing your gym shoes from the parking lot tracks dirt and moisture onto the floor.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Commitment Fee

For travel baseball and travel softball there is a $150 commitment fee that must be paid prior to the tryouts   For travel basketball there is an $85 commitment fee due before tryouts, in addition to the $70 regular league fee.  For players making the teams this commitment fee becomes non-refundable and is applied to the fees due for the respective program.  For players who do not make a travel team the commitment fee is returned/refunded.

In recent years players have tried out, made the teams, then left the DYA teams to play for other Central Ohio programs, in some cases leaving their “teammates” with an roster not large enough to have a team.  The commitment fee is designed to encourage tryouts by only those players who want or intend to play for DYA teams.

Refund Policy

Refunds of fees will be provided only if requested in writing and received prior to the formation of teams.  Requests for refunds should be directed to DYA, 4285 W. Dublin Granville Road, Dublin, Ohio  43017 and include a self-addressed envelope.

In prior years, and especially during the basketball season, a number of players dropped out of the leagues for various, often good, reasons.  However, many parents failed to make their intentions known until after teams were formed, even though the decision had long since been made.  This left several teams short of players in leagues that were not full or had no wait lists.  In too many cases this created an unnecessary hardship on the remaining players and coaches.

In an effort to encourage more timely notice of intent not to play, late notifications, defined as notice after teams are formed, are no longer eligible for refund.

Jersey Sales

DYA reversible basketball jerseys will be sold at sign-ups for basketball on September 10th.  Jerseys also available on Monday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in September and October, except Labor Day.  Check web site for special times for jersey sales.

The co-ed volleyball program will conduct its sign-ups for the fall 2005 season before the end of the school year.  The volleyball season begins practice the first day of school in August.  Sign-ups will be held in early to mid-May.  Please check the web site, dya.com, or check the Dublin News and The Villager for details as sign-ups approach.  Registration will close June 14th and teams will be formed in August.

Players who intend to tryout for girls’ school teams are encouraged to sign-up in May.  That way they can guarantee a spot to play DYA volleyball if they don’t make a team or decide later not to tryout.  Any player who makes her school’s fall volleyball will have her registration fee refunded.  As is the case in all DYA programs, registrations received after the deadline are accepted subject to space available in the program.
